Research Notes

This Jean Gaignon has been identified as the correct man who was father of an illegitimate son with Marie Marguerite Bouchard in 1693, Jean Gagnon; he was resident of Rivière-du-Loup en bas, whereas none of the others of that name lived there. This is clearly outlined in the trial that happened thereafter in regards to this child. (see Marguerite's profile for documents of this trial)[5]

Jean Gagnon

Hello cousin Judith, I do have the right profile. Jean Gagnon (son of Robert Gagnon and Marie Parenteau) had an illegitimate child (Pierre Jean Gagnon) with Marguerite Bouchard. This is documented in the paper cited above, done by an experienced genealogist, Antonio Gagnon. And this is supported also by DNA analysis (FamilyTreeDNA). The other Jean Gagnon (son of Jean Gagnon and Marguerite Drouin) did not have a child with Marguerite Bouchard. There was a trial, stating that the father, Jean Gagnon lived at Rivière-du-Loup (his daughter Marie-Angélique was born in Rivière-du-Loup Dec. 23, 1692 and later baptised at Rivière-Ouelle). Jean Gagnon never appeared in front of the court, during the trial, but the man for whom he worked, Sieur Aubert de la Chesnaye did represent him. Other point, to commit adultery, a man had to be married, this was the case for Jean Gagnon married to Jeanne Loignon. The other Jean Gagnon you refer to married later Anne Mesnil (16 Feb. 1699) and could not commit adultery when the illegitimate child was born. So the father of Pierre Jean Gagnon (1693-1782) should be changed on wikitree.

May I ask if you have contacted the profile manager of Jean (Jean Pierre) "Pierre" Gagnon (1693-1782) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gagnon-1092 in order to make them aware of the oversight. They should make the necessary corrections however; if they are no longer active on WikiTree, I will step in after they've had a month to respond.

hello cousins, the article has been linked (It's old enough to be freely accessible), the arguments are supported by the trial data, which can be seen on Marguerite's profile. Have therefore transferred to boy to his correct father.
